A package finds its way to the barracks, containing a set of letters.

To whom it concerns,

I am submitting a copy of my own field report of an operation that relates to a current situation involving assassin golems that I believe have attempted to neutralize specific targets in Sigil. I'm not sure if it will be helpful to the ongoing investigation, but if so, here it is.

I'd also like to request any additional information the Harmonium have on the incidents relating to these attacks, including the victims backgrounds, races, etc.

In response to  a case of attempted assassinations conducted by a strange breed of half mechanical, half organic beings, a Guvner Administrator - with the help of the Doomguard and Harmonium- located and secured a portal to an unknown plane or pocket plane. The gate was held in the Astral port town of Dead God. I joined a band of adventurers who, on request, went into the portal to investigate this supposed source of the attacks.

I was unable to discern if we had arrived in a fortress or some large vessel, but it was a large super structure filled with very advanced machinery and charged with otherwise contrary energies, most prominantly POsitive and Negative flows. At the heart of this bastion was a massive core of some kind, a conduit that forced these otherwise opposing powers to merge together and redirect them towards other parts of the installation.

The entire facility seemed to be dedicated to the creation of more of these "golems" (if they can be called such). In our reconnaissance, we discovered the followeding chambers:

1) Staging Area: This chamber contained several rigs and portal arches. Presumably it is where they launched their attacks from.

2) Core Chamber: The aformentioned conduit. We used it to destroy the facility as we left by overloading its power store units.

3) Forge: Manned by an unidentified and possibly artificial being resembling a homunculus. Its where they create a new kind of alloy out of morgoth iron and true steel. Rather than using traditional water as a cooling agent in the forging process, a mixture of fiendish and celestial blood was employed. Samples of this mixture have been recovered for furhter study.

4) Organic Incubation chamber: Unsure if this was its function, but its the best guess. The room was filled with large tanks containing unformed (or deformed?) organic beings with some mechanical componants fused into them. We destroyed the chambers contents, though the adventurer Negative Moon managed to recover one intact specimen, which was granted to the Guvners (to my knowledge, confirmation needed).

5) Artificial Incubation Chamber: Smaller than the Organic chamber, but seemingly serving a similar purpose. We did not spend enough time in this room to discern more.

6) Surgical Lab: Chamber was used to contain and experiment on prisoners, as well as harvest their blood and other body parts. We managed to rescue three survivors; an alu fiend, a hezrou and a ghaele. I did not speak with either of them outside of the mission, but the adventurer Scarlet may know more.

There was one more oddity about the base and its denizens; a sense that those within were from other planes and, according to Scarlet, times. The truth behind this strange impression has yet to be revealed.

If any other teams find themselves in bases of a similar kind, be aware that the walls are lined with maintenance and security golems. Anyone exploring these places must be alert at all times and not travel alone.

On a final note, we discovered that this unknown enemy intends to dispatch material harvesters (for ore, organics or both) to the following planes in the near future:

45v67 (identified as a Prime world. Request Guvner translation of the name and information on the plane)

jop9  (identified as a Prime world. Request Guvner translation of the name and information on the plane)

Lunia (First layer of Celestia).

A plane identified as the 446th layer of the Abyss.

I'd like to request the Triad dispatch expeditionary parties to these worlds at locations where the identified materials could be easily found.  We should be able to intercept any raiders and learn more about this menace.

Attached is the following report:
wrote: Subject: Unknown assassin constructs

A construct of unknown origin has been found at a murder site in the Clerk's Ward (address see attachment A), the victim, a human Fated Factotum called Tirena found dead.

Cause of death was determined as natural aging. Her body was still looking no older than the 23 years she has lived but closer inspections showed that all of her internal organs stopped working because of natural causes.
Raising her proved to be impossible.

The construct consists of a skeleton made unknown alloy and reinforced with living and undead flesh of unknown origin. Samples have been delivered to our laboratories and also to our Fraternity allies.
The construct's corpse and the victim have been delivered to the Mortuary.

A list of names was found on the construct and cross referencing it with the data provided by the fated we were able to identify other potential victims and take them into protective custody.

Holmar, Elf,  Bleaker Namer
Halmazin Ulbrich, dwarf, unaffiliated, Merchant
Jinea, Aasimar,  Signer
Haztar, Tiefling,  Sensate

When our investigators were digging a bit deeper they also found out that a Sinker named Uzztar might have been a target too but the construct changed its mind even as the clerk was looking for the information in the archives.

Unconfirmed rumours delivered by informants close to the Doomguards say that a Sinker namer of that name was called to a Doomlord the same day. The namer's fate is unknown.

Overall the construct was able to navigate Sigil's bureaucratic maze with ease so we assume it has access to informations that give it an insight to how this place works.

There is also more, it seems that... <now there is a whole passage that has been blackened in the copy Dace gets- a Top Secret seal placed on the margin of the page nearby> ...while unconfirmed this ability would be very dangerous, the thought that it is even possible is most troubling.

A response reaches the officer shortly after.

Measure Finck,

Thank you for your speedy response.

Would it be possible for me to join one of your officers in an interview with those who were taken under protective custody? Also, while I completely appreciate the need for discretion when it comes to internal faction reports, I would also with all due respect request access to the omitted section of dossier you sent, or at the very least some insight as to what this disturbing ability is that your agents came by. Needless to say, those of us involved in countering this threat- factioneer or free agent- need to know everything that our common foe might throw against us.

Once again, your assistance is greatly appreciate. I will be sending some of the recovered materials for testing soon, and relay anything we discover.

Sincerely,

Justice Dace Andor

Justice,

it is an honour for us to invite you to participate in interviewing those people. The Notary in charge has been informed already.

You also have been cleared by your faction to be allowed access to this most secret file. An additional vow by you is necessary to clear you from our side- I was told the content is rather disturbing.

It will be your responsibility to let whatever free agents you are going to hire know what they need to know- and not more.

Please send any recovered material to the Fraternity for closer examination as our own researchers work closely with the Guvner team.

Excellent. Please let me know when I may come by to interview the survivors and witnesses.

I will of course use discretion with the material.

((no worries, RL always first))

The answer consists of a warded and sealed envelope, delivered to Dace by a Fraternity Bailiff and Harmonium Measure.

He is also informed that he is free to visit the witnesses whenever he wants to.

((I will hold a mini event that allows interested players to interview the witnesses and targets next week. Content of that envelope follows as PM))

Dace had prepared to be let down by the Harmoniums definition of "disturbing", and so began to read the contents of the letter fully expecting some description of a violent vivisection or strange ritual.

What he ended up reading was....quite unexpected. For once, the hyperbole seemed to be spot on, because he did in fact find himself feeling a bit disquieted by the revelation.

In itself, it wasn't exactly an impossible scenario, but its implications were indeed quite disturbing.

He shook his head, resealing the envelope and keeping it securely in one of his magic pouches, being sure not to let it out of his possession. Before theorizing too much over this information, it was probably best to speak with the survivors...

((awesome, will try to make it! Give a shout out when)).

A note from the Barracks arrives:
wrote: Justice Arndor,

something very odd happened at the Barracks today- the Signer we took into protective custody
seems to have been erased from this Multiverse.

Several guards and all her companions have already forgotten about her existance and even our records no longer show that she even lived.

Interviewing our guests revealed however that they were planning to explore some minor layer of the Abyss that has nor been described in any records before. Or so it seems, as there are a few things that are rather queer.

\\ Before responding...does the letter have the senders rank or official seals and the like?

Dace frowned upon reading the latest missive. However these things went about "erasing" people, it was evidently rather imperfect, if some of the locals managed to remember the subject.

He quickly sent out a response , then began preparations for a small trip...

Measure Fink,

I am writing to you in part to confirm the participation and clearance level of Colus Bern in this case. I received a missive from him recently appraising me of the missing Signer.

It sounds as if our good Signer might have escaped of his own accord, rather than this enemy intervening. It might explain why some of us seem to recall her presence while only the guards and local files do not. Or at least, one can hope.... granted, the involvement of this new foe is not improbable either.

Either way, would this Abyssal Layer happen to be the 446th? Do you have any means of retracing the way to it? If so, I can make ready to pursue.
