This reminds me of those long-eared people who can seemingly hear everything that is spoken at the bazaar, even if they're far across it from the speaker (but still within Say range). :P

To be fair... would you rather everyone keep going WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU, COULD YOU REPEAT THAT? all the time? :P ... or speak in caps lock all the time for that matter. On my opinion if you're in range to hear what is said, then you're in range to hear what is said. If Bazaar should have that range decreased, then I guess that's fine, but until then I'm definitely going to have my characters hear things within normal talk distance. x)

Just add more sound effects of crowds to the Bazaar, with jacked up Volume. Force people to cope with the atmosphere, or to gtfo.

But caps is alright too...

Even if everyone had all the sounds, and forced to keep headphones whatever, they wouldn't compete in same frequencies... for one: players don't voice chat, they only use text. You'll always see that text regardless of how much noise the bazaar make. And it'd be at best awkward to interpret what my character can hear or can't based on all of that. You could make more NPCs that spam the talk chat, bring back Ten Fingers and add 10 different similar NPCs to spam the same, then you'll have the effect you want :P it already gets hectic when there's a swarm of PCs, so it's a well tested method... but somehow I don't think that's what anyone really wants.

I think it's the fact that people just don't RP the market as being busy. There's no NPC's wandering about so it doesn't have the 'feel' of being busy. I think people tend to take this for granted and adjust their RP accordingly. People cast an AOE spell. When called out on it they respond 'well it's only that char I hit so no big deal'. Yeah... that character and about 20 other shoppers.

People just have to remember, even though it isn't shown, the Market is a big busy place. Might not be deafening loud but it sure isn't quiet and peaceful.

I have to admit that I have never seen anyone telling others to leave OOCly. It have all been IC. This whole topic kinda sounds like a one time experience, and I would suggest to take it with the player in question or to a DM if you feel it is harassment.

That said, with the "noises" of the bazaar. I do not think it is right to tell others to "immerse yourself in this way!" or "I will force you to listen to all this noise while you are here" because frankly, some people can not concentrate to create great RP while being forced to listen to a lot of buzzing sounds.

Right now as the population is a little lower than usually, there might be a lack of merchants. In the past, personally, I was unable to RP in the bazaar for prolonged times simply because of all the chattering and bartering that the player trading caused. That kinda gives the "natural" feel of a busy markets place as well, as it is made by the players them self. I am sure that is going to change now that many people get back from finals and what not!

Exactly. In some parts of the Bazaar (not constantly, I assume, because crowds ebb and flow), your character would be wading through a very large crowd. We're talking about a city that has a population of millions. (I keep seeing varying numbers, 7 to 20 million.) And Great Bazaar might just be the busiest area in the city.

No, it has happened every so often. (Stop making assumptions, please.) It's happened to me once. It's happened to other players that I saw while being in the Bazaar. It is neither a one-time thing nor it is quite to the point of needing a DM. But it keeps happening, hence this reminder thread.

That's a bit silly, considering its a medieval fantasy game still and the official maps don't make it seem larger than a city of a few hundred thousands at most.

New York has a population of 8.4 million and its incredibly dense and massive. Sigil is nowhere near that.

Everything I've read on it (in official channels) puts it between 250k and 1 million... usually closer to 500k

Well, I stand corrected. Nonetheless, point is, you have literally thousands of people coming through the Bazaar every day. How do you cast an AoE and not hit someone else?!
