Among the new recipies, there some that add an item with spell X, Y times a day.

8. If I cast a 'spell' enchantment on an item that already has one, what will happen?

9. Does the item need to be a staff, or will just any item do?

Only staves, and I don't think there'll be overwriting (or upgrading) or any effect if it already has such spell per day. Just nothing happens is my prediction if you do try to enchant the same one to staff that already has the cast spell property in any form or manner.

...now if only some objects that could cast protective enchantments (stoneskin, for one example my character would kill for) would show up....and perhaps not as staves? Say, as rings perhaps?

Just saying that logistically, it's funny that there will now be people running about Sigil with twenty staves strapped to their back...

Exactly...even when magic items are limited to +2 (which they were on another server I built for), the actual game mechanics will allow for min/maxing. The only way to prevent that is to make all players humans and nerf classes.... which would be a server I'd not be interested in playing. And even though I could have afforded to get all my enchants done at once and gained considerably more power, I've found it far more entertaining to use each individual boost as yet another excuse to visit Neli. I understand that min/maxing happens in any case; I was suggesting that min/maxing should not be made even easier.

Mr. O gave roughly the same reason as I did for not expanding the list of spellcasting available for staves.

Sheesh.

Expanding the variety of items will inescapably lead to more min/maxing possibilities, the two are linked... and I'd much rather have a server where there is min/maxing rather than every weapon being +1 - +5 and nothing more (somewhat like the old loot system... I'm sure there are people with dozens of +5 plain weapons saved up still)

We will most likely try to add even more variety to items in future too... will it lead to more min/maxing? most likely... will it also lead to more interesting items and builds? definately... it's a trade off...

I got dozens of those +3 and +4 weapons. =P

And if some one decides to Enchant those staves, take a look here on page four:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/19792008/DnD3 ... -Rods-Misc

If you got similar enough spells in your staves, you could name those staves accordingly. ;)

Staffs of certain protective effects with charges rather than uses per day would be fitting as well.... they could be initially expensive, but considerably cheaper to recharge via a separate recipe...

Recharging is already possible with the Magic Electrifier, but that is a rather rare drop.

Not sure if we have our charged staffs as loot yet, I think some of those had buffs.

*Gets excited*

Of course, if you REALLY wanted to be evil, you could do like the PnP and give crafted magical items an XP cost... *cackles maniacally*
