At the moment, in SCoD, you can Distill creature parts to form Essences. You should be able to create those NWN2 OC granade-like items except for Alchemist's Fires due to the lack of Fairy Dust. Creation of granade-like items items is important to those who would wish to craft traps beyond the Spike, Fire and Frost types.

But I do not think you can create Poisons of your own, at least I have not run into any (Creature X Venom Gland)'s that are usually used for poison making.

While Craft Alchemy is a class skill for the majority of the NWN2 classess. It is also a pathway for some non-casting characters to become something of an 'Alchemist'.

Well, poison creation would be obvious addition. Nevertheless, would it be possible to further extend the use of Craft Alchemy into creation of potions?

I know of the existance of the Brew Potion feat that requires at least three levels of a caster class. (Practiced Spell Caster feats can be used to meet this requirement.) But what I do not know is that can you use UMD to brew potions, as in use scrolls to fill those empty bottles? Or are you stuck with the spell granted by your spell book?

Alchemy/Poison brewing is on the list of things we have plans to improve upon. Trapmaking too actually... and hopefully make it possible to craft many such items in stacks of ten instead of one and one...

We will most likely not let alchemy brew normal potions directly, but those with brew potion feat might find they also need alchemy to create some special potions... Some alchemical potions (like the ones sold in undersigil) might become craftable with alchemy skill alone.

Thank you for posting this Lost- Sorry i did not get around to it myself.

I was asking about this as one of my chars is actively persuing alchemy. I found that it is rather odd that craft alchemy cannot make potions (should of read up on this first) As thats generally one of the major things 'alchemists' do.

Im not asking for alchemists to make 'potions of gate' or anything, I am asking if its possible with the 'brew potion' feat and craft alchemy alone (no caster lvls) if its possible to create healing potions (Cure light/severe wounds, possibly even heal potion), and other basic things such as eagles splendor and all the Ability + potions, if you get my drift..

I looked myself Lost, poisons can be made with craft alchemy.. and are found in the Lab..

This leaves the craft alchemy skill to JUST what lost listed in the 'crafting' thread, which i find a little low. I understand there are other more important things on your plates DM's, but I ask that you look into improving and possibly adding more things for the craft alchemy skill... thank you thank you!

Edit: About Alchemist fire, I am curious if it is possible to change out fairy dust and put in something else to creat alchemist fires... I mean, it is a rather large part of alchemy.. you know.. 'alchemist fire'.. and to answer the question of "well, NPC so and so sells alchemest fire cheap" Does NPC so and so sell perfected Alchemist fire?

Well, I did some testing with the following build:

Bard 1 /// Rogue 19

I had the Practiced Spellcaster feat, thus the character qualified for both Brew Potion (Caster Level 3) and Craft Wand (Caster Level 5).

With the high UMD skill I was able to brew scrolls into potions and craft scrolls into wands.

Going for it the same way as I did is going to cost you three feats. If you want to save a feat you could just get the required caster level through class levels.

Looking such character from the role-playing perspective the low bard levels could be explained as follows; "Old Codger to a young Bard: *Sighs.* You know lad, I used to be quite cocky myself back when I was your age, I used to play and sing real' proper too. At that time I was the best thing in all of Archeron, but I was bit too cocky for my own good. Got in a brawl with some Mercykillers and they gave me a real proper beating. *Looks sullenly at the distance.* After that I just play me lute anymore, and I didn't fancy singing the high note. *Continues to talk to the glass, not noticing the young bard is long gone.*"

Well, to be honest, and to get the Brew Potion feat any of these classes would suffice; Wizard, Sorcerer, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, and Ranger. Although one should take notice how the Paladin and Ranger caster levels are actually ½ of their class levels, (+ Practiced Spell Caster Feat).

But considering how Bards open up quite a lot of skills as class skills and first level inspiration that grants +1 to both attack bonus and damage. The bard would seem to be the best choice to go with the game mechanics in mind.

Unfortunately the Warlock caster levels do not open a path for Brew Potion or Craft Wands feats. At least not to me, regardless how many times I're tried. They can get the feats to craft Magical Arms, Armor and Wondrous Items, though.

So, if a warlock character wants to brew potions and craft wands they would require a level dib in another casting class and the Practiced Spell Caster feat. But luckily warlocks do not have much of an use for their feats, so things are not that bad for them.

But considering how you can use UMD to do both things, it does seem rarther silly indeed for them not be able to pick the said feats.
