Still & Silent Invisibility spell. All you need to do is to poke that material component in your pocket. Shame that you can only use one metamagic feat at a time in NWN2.
Actually not true ;) there's automatic still and silent feats, and once you have one, you can use another same time, or even spend feats to pick automatic of both and use third, well add even automatic quickened version and you can use four same time.

The engine still makes you make the cast emote, so it still gives players the confirmation they're comfortable with.

I did some HiPS abuse to three people today.

After some initial problems opening the portal in the Harmonium courtyard I was able to get into the Abyss. Where after getting past the loading screen I noticed that there were some chaps standing in front of me, having something along Tea and Biscuits according to the short period observation I had on them.

I shrugged in real life that it must be nice to have builds strong enough to not be bothered by the danger that Blood War battlefield entitles.

I knew it was futile effort, but I nonetheless hit the key "Two" on my keyboard to dissappear by using HiPS. I walked past them as far away as I could. I didn't bother writing my usual in-character descriptions of dissappeatence, followed by out-of-character remark to those with certain ludicrous skill rolls.

Some ten minutes later my character was dead. That Balor must've had bard levels or something.
(My character is not capable of defeating one, at best he can avoid one.)

So, if you believe in Karma, you could say that there is some bad Karma in HiPS abuse.

But about HiPS and that confirmation which players would be comfortable with, take a look in here at the Shadow Options: http://www.tweakguides.com/NWN2_5.html .

That's the thing. It's not being abused here, but I have seen it abused on other servers. The "talking out of thin air", the "1 1nvis0 PvP Kilz Jooo! LOLz", and the use of OOC information under the guise of "oh, I was in HiPS within whispering range when you said that".

To me, this was simply an interesting thread to share opinions in. The fact of the matter is, the DM team is definitely not going to disable or make changes to it, and for that matter I do have a character that may see some playing time who is taking a few (yes, more than one) SD levels for HiPS... albeit HiPS that will only be used versus monsters.

And that would be something I call... unnecessary. OOC remarks that just attempts to put others in bad light is not contributing or helping. Players don't really want to hear "You've done something wrong"... because that's not helpful... infact they'd be happier to not have ever heard it at all. (this far, feeling likely is pretty much described above)

What gets far better response is suggestions... tips... hints... but they aren't required to be shoved to players either. You can offer to give one... if they want not hear it, that's the end of it.

People come to play the game to get some peace of the real life and its troublesome aspects and last thing they want is people telling them what to do in game also ;)

Now naturally if someone is breaking the rules, you can let them know it's against the rules. But if they decide to persist, best idea is to just walk away... no need to stress about it, take screenies and let DMs handle it.

----

Non-related to actual subject and post(s) above.

In general about the thread I've come to think about few points that probably pretty much guides how to proceed about the entire "HiPS" situation. (well it works for most situations ;P)

You can't force your (thee reader and me) roleplaying way to others. Same as they can't force their (the others) roleplaying to yours... Why not? Why won't you roleplay like the fella right infront of you says you to play? Probably same reason as the one infront of you won't play like you want them to. After the deppressing truth... here's the gist!

- What you want to do is to inspire others. Show them your way, do it with style, if it's enough convincing and well done, others likely will grasp to the same concept way or another... because they might see it's more "logical"/fun way to do it. Just do your side of work, that's what you really need to be worried of, not so much what others are doing wrong ;) Leading by example as bloods say.

Mr. O kinda nailed what I usually mean by.

"We all suck at rp but at least we try". Its my way of saying no one will ever live up to someone else's standard of RP nor will you always excel in your own standard.

Suggestions are great if wanted or something said nicely or not said in being critical of someone else's actions or words. Though best to wait for others to ask then give your two cents. (unless its something funny the its always best to share).

Also with rp my view is this Bail from stuff you are uncomfortable with, discuss it ooc when convenient for both parties, then involve staff if no common ground can be found.

90% of all problems can be resolved just by talking I figure.

sorry back to topic...HIPS RULES :P

//// Sorry, I'm logging off.

/// I'm afraid I really need to be elsewhere.

// Well, I should dissappear from sight - unless you got silly amounts of spot and listen. =P

One of those three, with minor variations.

Not quite the tone on those example remarks as usual I see... however, the point still stands. OOC remarks are generally unwelcomed. Of course if you have to go, then feel free to say it, but criticism is best left out unless asked.

To make a remark is to express something briefly and casually, to make a simple comment you might say.

There is no tone. Tone of written text is the interpretation of the reader.

It's been a day too long, getting little philosophical here.

In a way that 'who came first questions' appear as pleasant way of spending time.
